Creep (2004)

Date Watched: July 15, 2011
Source: Netflix Instant Play

You know, this was really a shame. It started out pretty creepy, and the premise was good: Woman falls asleep at the Underground station, and when she wakes up, she’s trapped there for the night… with someone or someTHING else.

But then they made the someone/something a being… I don’t know how else to describe it. But it turned into a THING living underground, and the camera followed it for a while, and we had clear, long shots of it. Once you can see a ‘thing’ for more than a few seconds, it’s not scary or creepy anymore. Especially when you get right up in its face while it begs to not be hurt. Give me a damned break.

And what was the point? There was no point to anything that it did. All of it served no purpose. It was basically just a poorly-done mishmash of crap from the Saw movies, from what I could tell, and not nearly as horrifying either.

It actually took me four or five separate attempts to finish watching it. The second to last attempt, I was 15 minutes from the end and I. Just. Couldn’t. I finally forced myself to drag through the last 15 minutes and it was so disappointing.

Such a waste of time, and a good idea.

The Spitfire Grill (1996)

I loved this movie.

I love the “small town” community where everyone knows everyone else. I love a southern accent. I love the Maine accent. I love the woods in the fall. I love a little homey diner. I love a grumpy old lady with a big heart hidden behind the grump.

And I think Alison Elliott was fantastic.

(Not so crazy about sad endings, but they did it right).

Ip Man (2008)

I’m not usually into martial arts movies but this one was really good. It wasn’t cheesy like most of them… the fights were beautifully orchestrated; they were actually graceful. The story was good too, not just a vehicle to watch a fight.

And, Donnie Yen (Ip) is a master. He’s amazing.

I’m looking forward to watching Ip Man 2.

To Sir, With Love (1966)

Oh I loved this. I really do enjoy Sidney Poiter. He’s the Denzel of the 60s. And I do love me some Denzel. But aside from his brilliant acting (and excellent enunciation), this quote solidified my love for this movie:

I am sick of your foul language, your crude behavior and your sluttish manner. There are certain things a decent woman keeps private, and only a filthy slut would have done this and those who stood by and encouraged her are just as bad. I don’t care who’s responsible – you’re all to blame. Now, I am going to leave this room for five minutes by which time that disgusting object had better be removed and the windows opened to clear away the stench. If you must play these filthy games, do them in your homes, and not in my classroom!

Oh, Sidney. I love it.

I think Janet Jackson is beeeeeeeautiful.

Except I hate Tupac.

And I hated their friends.

And I hated everything about this movie, except Janet.

Wasn’t this supposed to be a terrific movie? It was freakin’ horrible.

But Janet Jackson? Beautiful.

Well, lookie there. July 4th weekend and I’m finally getting around to posting what I watched on June 4th. And, I haven’t actually finished a movie since then. I’ve started Gonzo, Dolls, Creep, The Lady Vanishes… and who knows what else. It’s just very difficult to finish a movie at home, and I haven’t been working the last couple of Saturdays. So today I should get some movies in, and while I’m the only person here on July 4th afternoon (by which time there should be precisely NOTHING to do), I should get a couple more down.

…should anyone be reading this, that is.

Echo echo echo…

Without A Trace (1983)

I enjoyed this film, though I must say I don’t understand what’s so “haunting” and “heartbreaking” about it. I suppose you’d have to be a parent to understand.

One thing I will say is that Kate Nelligan is gorgeous. I don’t know what kind of an actress she is… I wasn’t overly impressed. She didn’t seem all that emotional at all, regardless of what was going on.

Yet somehow, I really liked this.

8213: Gacy House (2010)

Date Watched: June 4, 2011
Source: Netflix Instant Play

It was horrible.

I almost left just that and ended the post… but I’m going to point out a few reasons why it’s horrible.

First off, if you’re investigating for ghosts and you get spooked by a bedroom, you don’t proceed to have sex in said bedroom, on camera, that everyone can see.

Secondly, it isn’t John Gacy’s house. I don’t care if it’s on the same lot… it’s not his house. So, “logically” speaking, he’d only be in the basement.

Third, if you’re going to try and make a ghost story movie, don’t use stupid crap like goo randomly exploding out of a lamp, or a quaking room.

Fourth, if you use a blonde, fake-chested, slutty looking woman who was probably a low grade porn star at one point… and you cast her as a hokuspokus psychic who uses crystals and odd rituals, your movie will automatically be a piece of crap, regardless of what or who else is in it.
